Zithromax, a macrolide antibiotic, is used to fight bacteria in the body.
Zithromax Uses
Zithromax is the treatment prescribed for various bacterial infections in the respiratory organs, skin, ears and in the genital organs. In children, the medication is used for the treatment of middle ear infection, tonsillitis, sore throat and pneumonia.
How Take Zithromax
Each tablet or capsule should be taken with 8 ounces of water. The oral suspension single dose packet should be taken with two ounces of water. The mixture is to be stirred well before being taken. The additional mixture which has remained unused for 12 hours should be thrown away. The capsules should be taken without taking any food, in an empty stomach. The capsule is to be taken either one hour before a meal or two hours after a meal. The tablets or the powder oral suspension can be taken with or without food. It is advised to take the tablet or oral suspension with food if the user gets affected with a stomach upset. The liquid form of the oral medication should be taken in the prescribed amount and the dose should be measured with a marked spoon. The medication should be taken for the entire period of time as suggested by the doctor.
Zithromax Warnings
Persons allergic to azithromycin, clarithromycin, erythromycin or troleandomycin should not be allowed to take this drug. Antacids containing aluminum or magnesium should not be taken 2 hours before or after a meal. The effectiveness of Zithromax tends to decrease with the simultaneous of these medicines. A dose adjustment or special tests need to be undertaken if a person is found to be affected with a liver disease, a heart rhythm disorder and a kidney disease. Persons with a history of Long QT syndrome are also to be treated with this medication.

Some people have also complained about decreased sense of smell, problems in hearing, vaginal discharge and itching, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, vomiting and insomnia.

The appropriate conditions for storing this medication is room temperature and away from heat and moisture. An unused liquid medicine is not fit for use and hence it is to be thrown away after ten days.
