Women Disturbed With Unwanted Facial Hair Can Use Vaniqa To Slow Down The Hair Growth Rate

Vaniqa General Information

Generic Name: Eflornithine Topical

Brand Name: Vaniqa

Vaniqa is the brand name for Eflornithine Topical. Eflornithine works to slow down the growth of hair by interacting with a chemical present in the hair follicles of the skin.

Vaniqa Uses

Women with unwanted facial hair are treated with Eflornithine Topical to reduce hair growth. But the medication does not remove hair permanently and it does not even stop the growth of unwanted facial hair. The medicine would only help an individual control her hair growth to some extent.

How Take Vaniqa

One has to note that this medication is not a hair remover and that one has to continue the use of other hair removal techniques. It is to be applied externally in the areas of hair growth. Eflornithine Topical is applied per day for two times and the doses are separated by a time gap of eight hours. The hands should be washed before and after the applications. One should begin by removing the hair by appropriate hair removal methods. After five minutes, the medication is to be applied in thin layers in the areas and care should be taken to gently rub the medication under the chin where the unwanted hair tends to grow. One should wait for a few minutes before she applies sunscreen or cosmetics to allow the medication to get absorbed. The treatment should be allowed to stay for four hours. One should avoid this medication from coming into contact with the eyes. Improvement symptoms might begin to get noticed after four to eight weeks of treatment. If no improvement is noticed after six months of use, then the medication should be discontinued.

Vaniqa Warnings

The hair growth might retrieve its original status eight weeks after the discontinuation of this treatment. Individuals who have had allergic reactions in the past should not use this medicine. Clinical studies have not able to determine whether the medication causes harm to an unborn baby. Pregnant women should not use this medication without informing her doctor. It is also not clear whether Eflornithine Topical appears in breast milk or it can cause harm to a nursing infant. Eflornithine Topical has not been approved for use in children below 12 years.

Vaniqa Missed Dose

If a dose gets missed then one can skip that dose and apply the next dose, but she has to maintain a regular schedule thereafter. But one should not apply double doses to make up for the missed doses.

Vaniqa Side Effects

If the medication is applied in broken or chapped skin, then it might lead to temporary redness, stinging, tingling, burning and rash. Eflornithine Topical should be discontinued if irritation persists. Many women have reported the occurrence of hair bumps or folliculitis. The doctor should be informed in such cases.

Vaniqa Storage

The medication is to be stored at room temperature and away from moisture and heat. The medication should be protected from freezing.

Vaniqa Overdose

If an individual suspects that she has used too much of the medication or if she has ingested the medicine, then she might consult her doctor or contact hospital emergency room or poison control center for advice.

Vaniqa More Information

This medication should be prevented from getting into the eyes, mouth or nose. One should let her doctor know about the other medications, both prescription and over-the-counter that she is using at present. This is a very important consideration especially if an individual is using topical preparations. In such cases special monitoring or dose adjustment would be necessary.
