Generic Name: esomeprazole

Brand Name: Nexium

Nexium decreases acid formation in the stomach. Nexium treats symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease as well as other conditions involving excessive stomach acid. It also promote healing of the damage to the esophagus caused by stomach acid.

Nexium can prevent gastric ulcer caused by infection with helicobacter pylori or due to the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Nexium may also be used for purposes other than those listed here.

Nexium Uses

Nexium should not be used by a person who is allergic to esomeprazole. Before taking Nexium, the doctor should be told if the person concerned ever had liver disease or any type of heart disease. He may need dose adjustment or special tests during the treatment.

To best treat your condition, use all the medications as per the direction of the doctor.Some of the conditions are best treated with a combination of Nexium and antibiotics. Doses must not be changed or medication schedules changed without advice from your doctor.

Nexium should be used for the entire length of time prescribed by the doctor. The capsule should not be crushed, broken or opened a outdated medicine. Swallow the pill as a whole which is specifically made to slowly release in the body. Breaking, crushingwill release the entire pill and too much of the drug at a time that may work adversely.

This medication may not be harmful to a new born. But, a pregnant mother or expecting mothers, must inform the doctor about it before using this medication.Likewise, a breast feeding mother should also take doctor's consent before starting this medication.

How Take Nexium

Take Nexium exactly as it was prescribed. Do not take in larger quantity of the medication or take it for a longer period of time than what has been prescribed. Prescription label direction to be followed.

The medicine is normally prescribed for 4 to 8 weeks. Doctor may prescribe it for a second course of medication. Take each dose with a full glass of water. Nexium should be taken at least one hour before a meal. The capsule should not to be crushed, broken or opened a delayed - release capsule. The pill should be swallowed. However, a delayed release capsule may be opened and sprinkle on a spoonful of pudding or applesauce to make it easy to take. The mixture to be swallowed without chewing. The mixture must not be saved for future use. Empty capsules should be disposed off duly. Nexium can be given through a nasogastric feeding tube.

Nexium must be used regularly to get the maximum benefit out of it.

Nexium Warnings

Doctor's instructions with regard to the restrictions about food, beverages or activity while you are using Nexium must be followed.

Nexium Missed Dose

Missed dose should be used as soon as remembered. If it is almost time for the next dose, the next schedule dose must be taken. No extra dose to be takenas compensation.

Nexium Side Effects

Incase of any signs of allergic reactions like hive, breathing difficulties, swelling of lips, tongue or throat, emergency medical help should be asked for.

But the doctor should be called immediately if these serious sides effects are observed -headache, diarrhea, stomach pain, nausea, gas, constipation, dry mouth. Side effects other than listed above may also occur.

Nexium may be stored at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.

Immediate emergency medical attention should be asked in case it was surmised that too much of the medication has been taken.
