Microzide General Information

Generic Name:Hydrochlorothiazide Capsule

Brand Name: Microzide

Microzide is used to treat high blood pressure. It may be used alone or sometimes along with other medicines. Microzide being a thiazide diuretic helps kidneys to remove fluid from the body. Microzide may also be used for other conditions as decided by the doctor.

Microzide Uses

One should not use Microzide,

  • if he is allergic to any ingredients of the medication.
  • he is unable to urinate
  • he is uncertain about medicines (already taking) interaction with Microzide

Some medicines and medical conditionsmay interact with Microzide. The doctor should be duly informed about the following medical conditions:

  • if she ispregnant, planning to become pregnant or breast feeding
  • taking any prescription & non-prescription medicine, herbal preparation or dietary supplement
  • have severe allergic reactions to some drugs
  • if you have one or more ofthese ailments: gout, liver problems, kidney problems, diabetes, asthma, parathyroid gland problem, high blood cholesterol or lipid levels, high or low blood electrolyte level
  • some medicines may interact with Microzide.

Inform the doctor about all the medicines you are taking now and have taken in the past and seek advice about their continuance in view of the present medication.

How Take Microzide

Use Microzide as directed by the doctor. For dozing instruction, may refer the prescription label. Take Microzide by mouth with or without food. To cope with excess urination in the night (a prelude to Microzide use), it is better take the medicine before 6 PM.

Microzide Warnings

Microzide may cause blurred vision, or dizziness, get worst with alcohol intake, certain medicines, hot weather condition, exercise, or fever. To prevent, get up or walk slowly especially in the morning hours.

Doctor may prescribe additional potassium supplement. One should take it without taking anything more than what has been prescribed or change diet as per your fancy mood or design. Before taking any medical, dental care, emergency care or surgery, the concerned doctors should be told about Microzide that you are taking. Also, tell the doctor about your side effects in hot weather exposure. Microzide use easily causes sunburn. So, all protection like less exposure to sun, use of sunscreens, protective clothing's must be used. Microzide may increase blood sugar. Regular checking of blood sugar is recommended. Microzide interfere with various lab tests including parathyroid function tests. Doctor and lab personnel must know about your taking of Microzide. While using Microzide, following tests must be made regularly and properly monitored to check side effects: lab tests including kidney function, blood pressure, and electrolyte levels. All appointments to lab and doctors must scrupulously adhered to. Elderly persons, pregnant ladies, breast feeding and nursing mothers -need careful consideration by the doctor before recommending use ofMicrozide.

Microzide Missed Dose

Missed dose as soon as remembered should be taken.But, if it is almost time for the next dose, the missed dose may be skipped and the next schedule dose must be taken at the appropriate time. No extra dose to be taken to compensate the missed dose.

Microzide Side Effects

All medicines may cause side effects. But, many people may or may not have the reactions due to such side effects. Doctor's opinion about persistence of these side effects or whether they have become bothersome, must be found out:

Constipation ; diarrhea; dizziness; loss of appetite; nausea; blurred vision temporarily ; lightheadedness especially when sitting or standing up.

Seek immediate medical attention if any of these serious side effects occur: rash, hives, breathing difficulty, itching, chest congestion, swelling of mouth, lips, tongue, blurred vision, muscle pain and cramps, bruising, shortness of breath, impaired healing of wounds, itching, burning, redness, muscle weakness, decreased urination, yellowing of the eyes and skin, tiredness, peeling skin,vomiting.

Microzide Storage Advice

Microzide should be stored at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C). Storeaway from moisture and heat and light. Not to be stored in bathroom. To be kept away from the reach of children and pets.

Microzide Overdose

If overdose is suspected contact the local poison center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose include muscle cramps, severe dizziness, and very dry mouth, weak or irregular heartbeat.
