Kenalog General Information

Generic Name: triamcinolone

Brand Name: Kenalog; Cinolar; Triderm

Kenalog is used for the treatment of inflammation caused by number of conditions such as allergic reactions, psoriasis, and eczema. Kenalog's dental paste is used for the treatment of mouth ulcers.

Kenalog may be used for other purposes not listed here.

Kenalog Uses

Kenalog to be used as directed by the doctor or prescription label. Never to be used for larger amounts or longer period than recommended. The skin area not to be bandaged unless advised by the doctor otherwise. If the diaper area of a baby is the treatment area, plastic pants or tight fitting diapers not to be used. By covering the area that is treated with Kenalog, can increase the amount of drug the skin absorbs and that may lead to unwanted side effects. Doctors instructions in all such matter should be followed. Kenalog should not be used on your face, near eyes or skin folds in the body or on thin skin. Not to be used on a child without doctor's advice. Children are more sensitive to Kenalog. However, Kenalog will not treat a fungal, bacterial, or viral skin infection. Doctor need to be contacted if the condition does not improve or gets worse even after using Kenalog for several days.

How Take Kenalog

Kenalog to be used exactly the way the doctor has prescribed. Medication should not be used in larger amount or used for longer period than what has be prescribed by the doctor or written on the prescription label. Hands to be washed before or after each application. Of course, for the treatment of hands this instruction cannot be followed. A small amount to be applied to the affected area and gently rubbed into the skin. If the dental paste is used, apply the medication thinly, just enough to cover the mouth ulcer. The paste will work better, if the mouth ulcer is dried properly before applying the medication. It is very important to use Kenalog regularly to get the benefit.

Kenalog Warnings

Kenalog use must be avoided in eyes, mouth and nose and even on lips. It it does get entry in any of these areas, plenty of water to be used to wash it. Kenalog must not be used on sunburnt, windburnt, irritated and broken skin. This medication should not be used in open wound. Avoid using skin products that may cause irritation like harsh soaps, shampoos or skin cleaners, hair coloring, waxes, skin products that contain alcohol, lime, astringents or spices. Without doctor's advice no other medicated skin product to be used.

Kenalog Missed Dose

Any missed dose as soon as remembered should be taken.But, if it is almost time for the next dose, the missed dose may be skipped and the next schedule dose to be taken. No extra dose to be taken to compensate the missed dose.

Kenalog Side Effects

Emergency medical help to be requested in case of the following allergic reactions:breathing difficulty, hive, swelling of lips, tongue, face, or throat. However, medication should be stopped and the Doctor should be called if the patient has any of these signs that Kenalog is being absorbed in the body through skin and gums:

  • Blurred vision
  • Uneven heartbeats
  • Mood changes
  • Insomnia
  • Weight gain and puffiness in your face
  • Feeling tired

There may be less serious side effects like burning, itching, or peeling, skin redness, thinning of skin, blistering skin, or stretch marks.

However, this is not a complete list of side effects and there may be others that may occur.

Kenalog Storage Advice

Kenalog should be stored in room temperature away from moisture and heat.

Kenalog Overdose

Seek immediate medical attention if overdose of the medication has been taken or anyone else has accidentally swallowed it. Any overdose of Kenalog applied to the skin is not expected to produce life threatening symptoms.
