Flonase is a nasal spray. It contains corticosteroid fluticasone; It prevents inflammation by preventing the release of substances in the body that causes inflammation. Flonase is used to treat the nasal symptoms like congestion, sneezing and runny nose caused by allergies, seasonal or otherwise.
Flonase may also be used for other purposes not listed here.
Flonase Uses

How Take Flonase
Flonase to be used as it was prescribed by the doctor. But, before using Flonase, the doctor should be told whether the patient is having any infection of any kind or have been sickIn that case Flonase can only be used when the person concerned gets well from the infections. Doctor should also be told about any drug allergy of the patient or having any existing ailments like: glaucoma, liver disease, sores or ulcers, herpes, injury or surgery on nose. While using the medication, it should not be taken in excess or treatment extended beyond the time specified by the doctor. Prescription label directions to be followed. Usual dose of Flonase is 1 to 2 sprays in each nostril onceper day. It is necessary to prime the spray pump before using the spray for the first time. Shake the medicine well and spray 6 test spays in the air away from face. Whenever the pump is not used more than 30 days or left the cap of the spray pump off for 5 days or more, these spraying in the air for priming the spray pump must be done. Spray until a fine mist appears. It takes few days of Flonase use that the symptoms improve. For best results, keep using the medication as directed. However, the doctor should be told if the symptoms don"t improve after one week"s treatment. To ensure that Flonase is not doing any harmful effects on nose or sinuses, the doctor need to check the patient on a regular basis. So, the patient should not miss any scheduled visits to the doctor.
Flonase Warnings
Flonase should not get into the eyes. Rinse out with plentiful of water incase it gets in accidentally but have a session with the doctor all the same. Flonase lowers the blood cells that in turn help the body to fight infections. If the patient is exposed to chicken pox or measles, for preventive treatment the doctor may be called for since these conditions may be serious if not fatal for people who are using Flonase.
Flonase Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as remembered. If it is almost time for the next dose, the missed dose may be skipped and the next schedule dose must be taken at the schedule time. No extra dose to be taken to compensate the missed dose.
Flonase Side Effects
Emergency medical help must be requested in case of the following allergic reactions are noticed or felt: breathing difficulty, hive, swelling of lips, tongue, face, or throat. The Doctor should be called if the following serious side effects are observed:
- Severe nose bleeding
- Sores in the nose that won't heal
- Fever, flu, chills, body ache,
- Vision problem
There may be less serious side effects like head ache, back pain, nose bleed, menstrual problems, sinus pain, cough, sore throat, sores or white patches inside or outside the nose.
However, this is not a complete list of side effects and there may be others that may occur.
Flonase Storage Advice
Flonase should be stored in upright position in room temperature away from moisture and heat.
Flonase Overdose
Emergency medical help will be required in case of any intake of overdose of the medication. Overdose of Flonase will not cause life threatening symptoms
Symptoms of overdose include dizziness, drowsiness, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, stomach pain, loss of appetite, increased sweating, seizure or coma. However, long term use of steroids lead to usual symptoms like thinning skin, easy bruising, body fat in certain areas like waste, neck, face, back; increased acne, menstrual problems, impotence or less interest in sex.
