Estradiol is a form of estrogen. Estrogen is a female sex hormone.. Estradiol injection is used for treating symptoms of menopause like vaginal dryness, hot flashes, burning and irritation. It is also used to treat a lack of estrogen that is caused by ovarion failure. Estradiol injections are also used in men having symptoms of prostate cancer. Estradiol injections are also used for other purposes not mentioned here.
Estradiol Uses
This medication should not be used if the patient to be treated has any of the following conditions: a history of stroke, blood circulation problem, and hormone-related cancer. This medication may lead to birth defects in unborn baby. This medication should not be used during pregnancy. Doctor should be told if the pregnancy has occurred during treatment. Estradinol increases the risk of cancer ofthe uterus. Long term estradioltreatment may increase the risk of breast cancer, heart attack or stroke. Doctor should check the progress on a regular basis to determine whether the treatment should be continued.
How Take Estradiol
Estradiol should be used the way doctor has prescribed. The medication should not be taken in large quantity or used for longer than recommended period. Follow the directions on your prescription label. Estradiol injection is given into a muscle. One may learn how to take the injection by his own. But, till it is understood fully how it has to be self injected and how to dispose off the used syringe, needles etc., it is better left to someone more competent. The injection to be takenonce in 4 weeks. Doctor's instruction to be followed. Estradiol should not be drawn into a syringe until the patient is ready to take it. If the medicines have changed color or has particles in it, it should not be used. Seek doctor's advice. Each disposable syringe to be used once only.Dispose the syringe as specified duly. Regular physical examination to be practiced and self examination of breast for lumps on a monthly basis must be done while taking estradiol injection.
Estradiol Warnings
Do notuse estradiol injection if you have -
- a bleeding or blood clotting disorder
- a history of stroke or circulation problem
- any type of hormone-dependent cancer
- abnormal vaginal bleeding that no doctor has checked
Further, before using estradiol injection, tell your doctor if you have
- high blood pressure, angina or heart disease
- high cholesterol or triglycerides
- liver disease, asthma, kidney disease, diabetes, migraines. depression, gall bladder disease
- if the uterus removed
In case of any of the above disorders, a dose adjustments to be made by the doctor or special tests to safely use estradol injections.
Estradiol Missed Dose
Missed dose, as soon as it is remembered, should be taken.But, if it is almost time for the next dose, the missed dose may be skipped and the next schedule dose must be taken. No extra dose to be taken to compensate the missed dose.
Estradiol Side Effects
Emergency medical help must be sought in case of the following allergic reactions arefelt: breathing difficulty, hive, swelling of lips, tongue, face, or throat.
Estradiol injection should be stopped and the Doctor should be called if the following serious side effects are noticed:
- A lump in the breast
- Chest pain, pain spreading to arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating and
- Sudden numbness or weakness
- Headache, vision problem, confusion
- Light headed feeling, fainting
- A pain or swelling on the lower legs
- Abnormal vaginal bleeding
- Jaundice.
Less serious side effects include swollen breasts, nausea, vomiting, acne and skin color changes, impotence, migraine headaches or dizziness, vaginal pain.This is not the complete list of side effects and others may occur. Doctor to be informed if any unusual side effects are encountered.
Estradiol Storage Advice
Estradiol injections to be stored in room temperature away from moisture and heat.
Estradiol Overdose
Seek emergency medical attention if overdose of Estradiol has been taken. Symptoms of overdose are: vaginal bleeding, nausea and vomiting.
