Elimite General Information

Generic Name: Permethrin Cream

Brand Name: Elimite and Actinic

Elimite cream is used for killing scabies mite.But, this cream should not be used if the user is found to be allergic to any of the ingredients of Elimite. Doctor should be called if any of the things happen to the Elimite user.

Elimite Uses

Some medical conditions may interact with Elimite Cream. The doctor should be told if the user of Elimite have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to him or her:

  • If she is pregnant, intend to become pregnant or breast feeding a child
  • If the user is taking any prescription or non prescription medicine, herbal preparation or dietary supplement
  • If the user have allergies to medicines, foods or other substances.

Elimite cream interacts with some of the medicines. Since very little is absorbed of Elimite cream into the blood, the chances of its interaction with other medicine is very low. However, it is necessary to find out from the doctor whether the medicines the user of the Elimite is taking, can interact with Elimite. And, if so, whether to stop the medicine or change the dose.

How Take Elimite

The Elimate cream should be used as directed by the doctor.The label on the medicine must be checked for the doses to be used.

  • 1 Elimite cream should be thoroughly messaged into the skin from the head to the soles of the feet. Adults need not put the cream on the scalp, except in children and older patients
  • The medicines should be removed by washingafter 8 to 14 hours
  • The user may experience itching after the treatment. If living mites are seen after 14 days, retreatment will be necessary.

Elimite Warnings

Use Elimite cream for external application only. It should not be used near the eyes, inside the nose, mouth or genitals. There is likelihood of irritation if Elimite comes in contact with these areas. If any time Elimite gets into the eyes, flushing out with plenty of water has to be done immediately.

Elimite cream should never be used with children less than 2 months old.

Pregnant lady and breast feeding mothers must discuss with the doctor about the benefits and risks of using Elimite during pregnancy. Since safety of breast feeding during this medication is not known yet, no breast feeding should be done while using Elimite.

Elimite Missed Dose

If any dose of Elimite cream is missed, use it as soon as it is remembered.Continue to use itand doctor's directives must be followed.

Elimite Side Effects

If the following side effects persists and become bothersome after using Elimite, doctor must be consulted: itching, redness, swelling or mild burning or stinging.

If any severe side effects o Elimite occur, it is necessary to seek the medical attention right away:

Severe allergic reactions like hives, rash, itching, breathing difficulties, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, tongue, lips or face.

This should not be taken as a complete list of side effects. There may be other side effects that may occur. Any doubts or questions must be referred to the health care provider. Doctor must be kept posted about all side effects and advice sought from time to time.

Elimite Storage Advice

Elimite should be stored in room temperature(59 °F to 77 °F or 15 °C to 25 °C) away from moisture and heat or light. It should always be stored away from the reach of children and pets.

Elimite Overdose

Elimite cream may be harmful if swallowed. Symptoms include dizziness,headache, loss of appetite, loss of consciousness, vomiting, weakness and seizures.

Elimite cream to be used only by the patient for whom it is prescribed and it should not be shared with others.
