Dovonex is a synthetic form of vitamin D and is involved in the growth and development of skin cells. Dovonex is specifically used for the treatment of plaque psoriasis. Dovonex may also be used for many other purposes not listed here.
Dovonex Uses
Dovonex should only be used on the affected part. Dovonex should not be used on sunburned, wind burned, dry, chapped or irritated skin or on an open wound. Avoid abrasive, harsh, or drying soaps or cleansers during this medication. Dovonex should not be used more than 100 gms. a week.
How Take Dovonex
Dovonex should be applied as directed by the doctor. If the doctor's instruction is not clear, the doctor, the pharmacist or nurse should be approached to get the matter sufficiently cleared. Before and after application of Dovonex, the hands should be washed duly. The area of application on the skinshould be washed and driedbefore application of Dovonex. The application of Dovonex should only be restricted to the affected area. One should be particular that Dovonex should not enter eye, mouth, face, mucus membrane, open sores, irritated skin. In case that happens, rinse the part immediately with water. Dovonex should not be used in excess than what is prescribed.Dovonex should never be used more than 100 grams a week. Normally, it should take about 2 weeks to show the effects of the medication. But, if it is not there, do not discontinue the application of Dovonex.
Dovonex Warnings
Dovonex should not be used on skin that is sunburnt, windburnt, irritated or dry. That makes the condition still worse by Dovonex application. Dovonex is supposed to be in the FDA pregnancy category C. That makes it clear that conclusive evidence is not there that it harms any unborn baby. But, before application of this medication doctor's approval must be taken especially so if the (lady) patient is pregnant or she is breast feeding her baby although still it is not known whether the medicine is passes in the breast milk or not.
Other topical products should not be used while Dovonex is being usedsince use of some such product may interfere Dovonex 's effect. The affected skin part should not be washed more than three times a day. Harsh, abrasive cleaners, perfumes should not be used in the area under treatment.
Dovonex Missed Dose
Application of the missed dose should be done as soon as it is remembered. But, if it is almost the time for the next schedule dose, then apply the next dose which is almost due and skip the missed dose.
Dovonex Side Effects
Serious side effect due to the use of Dovonex is rare. However, if any adverse effect is felt, the use of Dovonex should be stopped and emergency medical help may be requested. The allergic reactions may be shortness of breath, chocking of throat, swollen lips, tongues, face or hives. There may be irritation of skin, such as burning, itching, redness, dryness, swelling or even peeling while using Dovonex. These side effects reduces by continuous treatment. Doctor must be informed about these side effects and also the fact if there is any change of skin color. There may be other side effects not listed here. Doctor to be informed about any unusual side effect that is especially bothersome.
Dovonex Storage Advice
Dovonex should be stored at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

Incase of suspected overdose or ingestion of Dovonex, emergency room or poison control center should be called. Symptoms in such cases are fatigue, weakness, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, nausea, vomiting, and high level of calcium in the blood.
