Diflucan General Information

Genaric Name: Betamethasone

Brand Name: Alfratrex, Beta-Vel, Diprolene

Diflucan is an antifungal antibiotic. Diflucan treats all fungus infections. Fungus infections can invade any part of our body including mouth, throat, esophagus, lungs, bladder, genitals and blood. Diflucan has another important application to prevent fungal application in people with weak immune system that might have been caused by cancer treatment, bone marrow transplant, or diseases like AIDS.

Diflucan Uses

One who is allergic to Diflucan or similar drugs, should not use this medication. Doctor should be told if the patient has kidney disease, liver disease, heart rhythm disorder, or a past record of "Long QT Syndrome". This medication should be used for the entire length of time prescribed by the doctorand should not be confused or misled since sometime symptoms may get better before the infection is completely treated. Diflucan should not be used for the treatment of a viral infection such as the common cold or flu. But, before Diflucan is used, the doctor should be told if the patient is allergic to -

liver & kidney disease, heart rhythm disorder, family or personal history of "Long QT Syndrome" since if he has any of these diseases, it will be necessary for the doctor either to adjust the dose of the medication or to take some special tests for safe intake of Diflucan.

How Take Diflucan

One must take the medication exactly in a manner as prescribed. It should never be taken in larger amount or take it longer than recommended. One should follow the direction of the prescription label. The dose depends on the infection that is being treated. Vaginal infection is treated with one pill. For other infection, the first dose must be a double dose.The doctor should be told if the symptoms are not improving.

The medicine should be taken with a glass full of water.One must shake the oral suspension before use. For measuring the dose, a marked measuring spoon or medicine cup should be used. The medication must be followed for the entire period of time as directed by the doctor. Symptoms may get better early but the infection will remain unless the full course of treatment is fulfilled. Diflucan will not treat a viral infection such as common cold and flu.

Diflucan Warnings

While on medication, one has to follow the doctor's instruction about restriction on food, beverages or activity. The doctor must be told about all the prescription and over-the-counter medication undertaken since any of these medicines may affect Diflucan. No new drug should be used without doctor's knowledge or concurrence.

Diflucan Missed Dose

Any missed dose remembered should be taken without further delay.But, if it is almost time for the next dose, the missed dose may be skipped and the next schedule dose must be taken at the appropriate time. No extra dose to be taken to compensate the missed dose.

Diflucan Side Effects

One must ask for emergency medical help in case of the following allergic reactions are noticed or felt: breathing difficulty, hive, swelling of lips, tongue, face, or throat. But, Diflucan use should be stopped and the doctor should be called if the following serious side effects are noticed:

  • Stomach pain, nausea, low fever, dark urine, clay colored stools, jaundice
  • Fever, chill, Chest pain, feeling short of breathing
  • Severe blistering, peeling and red skin rash
  • Unusual weakness, bleeding
  • Seizure

There may be less serious side effects like dry mouth and dry eyes, drowsiness, blurred vision,stomach pain, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, headache.

However, this is not a complete list of side effects and there may be others that may occur.

Diflucan Storage Advice

Diflucan tablets to be stored in room temperature away from moisture and heat. Liquid Diflucan may be stored in refrigerator but not be allowed to freeze. Left over medicine more than 2 weeks should be thrown away.

Diflucan Overdose

One should seek medical attention, if overdose of the medicine has been taken. Symptoms of Diflucon overdose may include unusual behavior, confusion and irrelevant thoughts.
