Detrol LAreduces spasms of the bladder muscles. Detrol LA treat overacive bladder with symptoms of frequent urination,urgency and incontinence. Detrol LAmay also be used for other purposes but not listed here. Detrol LA should not be taken if one is allergic to: tolterodine, uncontrolled glaucoma, blockage of uninary tract, stomach and intestine. Person going to take this medication must tell the doctor that he or his family has a history of "Long QT syndrome"

Detrol LA Uses

Detrol LA should be taken with a full glass of water. Do not crush, chew, break or open a controlled - release capsule. The pill should be swallowed as awhole. That's how the pill will release medicine slowly in the body. By breaking or opening the pill, will cause too much of the medicine to be released at one go. Detrol can cause side effect that may impair your thinking or recreation. Detrol LA should not be taken if the patient is allergic to tolterodine or having the following problem to reckon with-

• 5 Blockage of urinary tract
• Blockage in stomach or intestine
• Untreated or uncontrolled glaucoma

Further, there is a need for dose adjustment or special tests for safe intake of Detrol LA, if these conditions are existing-

• 6 Liver disease
• Kidney disease
• Glaucoma or family /personal history of "Long QT Syndrome"

How Take Detrol LA

Detrol should be taken the way it was prescribed. It should not be taken in larger quantity; nor to be used for prolonged period than what has been stipulated by the doctor.One should follow the directions on the prescription label. The doctor may be changing the dose from time to time for getting the best result from this medication. Pregnancy and plan to get pregnant during treatment must be communicated to the doctor. Similarly, a breast feeding mother should not use this medication without telling the doctor about the same.

Detrol LA Warnings

Detrol LA may cause blurred vision or side effects that may impair the thinking power and reactions of an individual. One must be careful if he is driving or do anything that requires him to remain awake and alert and also able to see clearly. Drinking alcohol should be avoided since it may increase some of the side effects of Detrol LA.

Before using Detrol LA, the patient should tell the doctor about all the prescription and over-the - counter medication he is doing. This includes vitamins, minerals, herbal products and drugs prescribed by other doctors. No new medication to be started without informing the doctor. Doctor should be told about the use of the following medicines: Arsenic trioxide, bepridil, cisapride, chloroquine, cyclosporine, droperidol, narcotic medication, pentamedine, vinblastine, antibiotic like zythromax, medicines to treat psychiatric disorders, heart rhythm medicine such as amiodarone.

Detrol LA Missed Dose

Missed dose should be taken without further delay, once remembered.But, if it is almost time for the next dose, the missed dose may be skipped and the next schedule dose must be taken at the schedule time. No extra dose to be taken to compensate the missed dose.

Detrol LA Side Effects

Emergency medical help must be sought in case of the following allergic reactions are noticed or felt: breathing difficulty, hive, swelling of lips, tongue, face, or throat. Detrol LA use should be stopped and the Doctor should be called if the following serious side effects are noticed:

• 2 Fast, and uneven heartbeats
• Chest pain, feeling short of breath
• Swelling and sudden weight gain
• Confusion, hallucination
• Urinating less than normal or not at all
• Painful or difficult urination

There may be less serious side effects like dry mouth and dry eyes, drowsiness, blurred vision,stomach pain, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, headache.

However, this is not a complete list of side effects and there may be others that may occur.
