Denavir is an antiviral cream for medication. It is used for the treatment of recurrent cold sores on the face and lips that is associated with herpes simplex virus. Denavir prevents herpes simplex virus from growing. Denavir should be applied in the very beginning, no sooner the first hint of developing cold sores appear. Of course, Denavir has other uses, not listed here.
Denavir Uses
Denavir should not be applied inside the nose or close to eyes as it may cause irritation. As mentioned above, in general, best result from Denavir can be obtained if applied in the early stage of appearance of the symptoms. Without doctor's advice, this medication should not be used during pregnancy as well as by breast feeding mothers.
How Take Denavir
Use Denavir the way the doctor has advised. If the direction is not understood, get the same clarified by the physician, nurse or doctor.Denavir should be applied every 2 hours to cold sore lesions while awake for a period of four days, unless otherwise directed by the doctor. Denavir should be used for the treatment of cold sores on the face and lips only.
Denavir Warnings
No other topical medicationsshould be used to treat the same area where Denavir medication is being used unless otherwise directed by the doctor.No other medications have been reported to interact with Denavir. The doctor or pharmacist must be discussed before taking other prescription or over the counter medications during treatment with this medication.
Denavir is in the FDA pregnancy category 8. That means it is unlikely to harm an unborn baby. However, it it advised not to use this medication during pregnancy without first talking to the director. It is not known whether this medication passes into the breast milk. Do not use this medication if the patient is a breast feeding mother.
Denavir Missed Dose
A missed dose should be taken as soon as remembered. If it is almost time for the next dose, the missed dose may be skipped and the next schedule dose must be taken at the schedule time. No extra dose to be taken to compensate the missed dose.
Denavir Side Effects
No serious side effects have been reported so far with the use of Denavir.
Less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. This medication may be continued and the doctor's advice may be sought in case the following reactions are experienced -
- Local numbness or tingling where the cream is applied
- Change in taste
- Headache
- Rash or irritation at the application site.
The doctor must be told if any unusual side effect is encountered or especially bothersome.
Denavir Storage Advice
Denavir should be stored in room temperature and away from moisture and heat as well as light.
Denavir Overdose
An overdose of this medication is unlikely to threaten life. However, if an excessive amount of the cream has been used, or if the cream has been ingested,a poison control center or an emergency roommust be contacted for advice.

There is no restriction on food, beverages or activity during treatment with Denavir, unless directed otherwise by the doctor.
