Condylox General Information

Generic Name: podofilox topical

Condylox is a skin medication used for removing genital warts. It is used to treat genital warts for outer skin of the penis and vagina. Condylox gel is also used to treat genital warts on the skin between rectum and the genitals. Condylox may also be used for purposes other than those listed here.

Condylox Uses

Doctor must be informed before using whether the patient is allergic to Condylox or other medical condition or if he takes or use other medication. The doctor will decide whether the concerned patient can at all use Condylox or dose adjustment is required or some special monitoring is required during treatment. Pregnant women or intended pregnancy must be told to the doctor for decision about Condylox use. Birth control measure will be needed during medication period. Breast feeding mothers should not use Condylox without talking to the doctor.

How Take Condylox

Condylox should be taken the way the doctor has directed. If the instruction is not properly understood, the pharmacist, nurse or the doctor may be approached for proper instruction. Condylox should not be taken by mouth. It is intended for topical use only. Condylox should not be used to treat genital warts inside rectum, vagina or penis. Its use must be restricted to the genital warts outside skin of the penis and vagina. Condylox may be applied to lesions as pointed out by doctor. Medication should be applied to the affected skin only by using the applicator provided. Hand held mirror may help identify lesions. Contact with the healthy surrounding skin to be avoided. If the wart is in a skin fold, the skin should be spread to approach and reach the wart. The treated skin should be allowed to dry properly, before it can be allowed to come in contact with surrounding healthy skin. The applicator after one use, must be thrown and never to be used for the second time. This treatment must be restricted to warts identified for treatment by the doctor. This medication should not be used in other skin growths without directors instruction. Hands to be properly washed after every application. Condylox is normally used 2 times a day, morning and evening, for 3 days in a rowfollowed by 4 days of rest. This is called treatment week. The doctor may advice 3 or 4 continuous treatmentweeks. The doctors advice to be followed.

Condylox Warnings

Mild skin burning is expected with the use of Condylox. But, if there is excessive pain, itching etc. the medication be stopped and doctor consulted before further resumption of treatment. The medication should not be washed off the treated genital wart unless there is excessive pain et al. It the healthy skin comes in contact with the affected portion, soap and water treatment for washing must be done. Medical help must be requested if the medication comes in contact with eyes although immediate rinsing with water may help somewhat. Use of Condylox must be made everyday to get the optimum benefit. But, excessive use of Condylox will not help the medication better, rather it may increase side effects. Sexual intercourse must be avoided on days when Condylox is applied. General warts are contagious. Through sexual act one may give or get the disease. Condoms use may help prevent the spread. Sexual partners should be duly checked for genital warts also.

Condylox Missed Dose

If a dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as remembered. If it is almost time for the next dose, the missed dose may be skipped and the next schedule dose must be taken at the schedule time. No double dose to be taken to compensate the missed dose.

Condylox Side Effects

The following side effects if any one of them is noticed, it is advisable to stop the medication and doctor informed for advice -

  • Hives, swelling of lips, tongue, face; shortness of breath, closing of the throat
  • Excessive burning, stinging or pain, bleeding, swelling of treated skin.
  • There may be other side effects also not listed here.

However, there may be less serious side effects as listed below. These may be talked to the doctor and the medication is continued without interruption-

  • Moderate itching, burning or pain
  • Unpleasant odor
  • Pain during intercourse

Storage Advice Condylox

Condylox should be stored in room temperature and away from moisture and light.

Condylox Overdose

Emergency medical help should be asked if overdose is suspected

Symptoms of Condylox overdose may be -nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, confusion, numbness and tingling, unconsciousness, seizures etc.
