Clarinex General Information

Generic Name: desloratadine

Brand Name: Clarinex

Clarinex is an antihistamine that reduces the natural chemical histamine in the body. Histamine can cause symptoms of allergies like sneezing, itching, runny nose and watery eyes. Clarinex treat all these symptoms of allergies and also treat skin hives and itching in people with chronic skin reactions. Clarinex may also be used for other purposes not listed here.

One should not take Clarinex if he or she is allergic to loratadine or desloratadine. Before taking Clarinex, doctor should be told if above allergies are there and also if liver or kidney problems are present. No child below the age of 2 years should be given this medication unless advised by the doctor. Clarinex disintegrating tablets should not be taken unless specifically advised by the doctor after testing the patient about the presence of phenylketonuria.

Clarinex Uses

In case of presence of kidney or lever disease, the dose adjustment or special tests to be conducted by the doctor. For pregnant and ladies planning to become pregnant during treatment period, must tell the doctor about the same. A breast-feeding mother should not use Clarinex unless permitted by the doctor.This medication should not be given to a child younger than 18 years as well as below 2 years without doctor's specific advise.

How Take Clarinex

Clarinex should be taken as directed by the doctor or as written on the prescription label. The medication should not be taken in larger amount or for longer period than prescribed. Clarinex to be taken once daily or as doctor prescribed. The tablet not be crushed.The tablet to be swallowed as a whole. If it is in liquid form, a special dose measuring spoon or cup to be used and not a tablespoon. For taking disintegrating tablets -the tablet to be kept in the blister pack, till it is to be taken. Package to be opened and the foil to be pilled back from the tablet blister. The tablet should not be pushed in the foil otherwise it will be damaged. The hands must be dry while picking the tablet for putting the same on the tongue. The tablet will dissolve quickly. Tablet should not be chewed or swallowed. Dissolved tablets are swallowed if necessary in severaltimes and may drink water to facilitate that.

Clarinex Missed Dose

Missed dose should be taken as soon as remembered. If it is almost time for the next dose, the missed dose may be skipped and the next schedule dose must be taken at the appropriate time. No extra dose to be taken to make up the missed dose.

Clarinex Side Effects

Incase of any signs of allergic reactions like hive, breathing difficulties, swelling of lips, tongue or throat, emergency medical help should be asked for.

But the doctor should be called immediately if these serious sides effects are observed -pounding heartbeats, fever or flu symptoms, seizure, jaundice. And, there may be less serious type of side effects may be present such as dry mouth, sore throat, cough, muscle pain, drowsiness, tired feeling, nausea, diarrhea, headache. However, this is a complete list of side effects and others may also occur.

Clarinex should be stored in room temperature and away from moisture and heat.

Incase of overdose intake of Clarinex, the symptom may be fast heart rate. Emergency medical help should be sought.
