BuSpar's genetic name is buspirone. It is an anti-anxiety medicine that works the chemicals in our brain. This brain which when gets unbalanced manifests itself in anxiety. BuSpar is used in the treatment of anxiety disorders. It is used in short term relief of the symptoms of anxiety like tension, irritability, dizziness, fear, pounding heartbeat and other physical symptoms. BuSpar Uses
One should never use BuSpar if he is allergic to buspirone or if he has used an MAO inhibitor in the preceding 14 days. One has to be extremely careful in the matter, since serious life threatening side effects may occur if BuSpar is taken before MAO inhibitor is cleared from the body. BuSpar in such condition, may cause impaired thinking or reactions. So, driving or such activities which needs mental alertness, should be scrupulously avoided. BuSpar is generally taken for a shortperiod not exceeding four weeks and should not be altered unless advised by the doctor. Further, BuSpar cannot be used if the patient has kidney or liver diseases. The doctor may alter the dose of BuSpar, however, when informed about the same.
How Take BuSpar
BuSpar should be taken as prescribed by the doctor and should never be exceeded in quantity or prolonged for longer duration. Directions in the prescription label should be scrupulously followed. BuSpar is usually taken for shorter period, normally not exceeding four weeks without doctor's advice. BuSpar may be taken with or without food but should be taken the same way every time. Some tablets of buspirone need to be broken before the medicine is taken. The tablets have special scored markings to facilitate tablet breaking easy. If the tablets are not broken evenly and in equal size, it should not be taken. Doctor's instructions about tablet size intake should be followed.
If the patient has switched to BuSpar from another anxiety medication, he has to slowly decrease the dose of the other medication rather than abruptly stopping it since some anxiety medication can cause withdrawal symptoms.
BuSpar Warnings
Alcohol drinking should also be avoided since alcohol will increase some of the side effects caused by BuSpar. Grapefruit or its juice may interact with BuSpar and may cause dangerous side effects. The matter must be discussed with the doctor and acted upon accordingly. Some other medicines like cold or allergy medicine, narcotic medicines, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers etc when taken with BuSpar, can add to sleepiness caused by BuSpar.Grapefruit or its juice may also interact with BuSpar and may lead to dangerous consequences. All these matters need doctor's careful consideration and advice.
BuSpar Missed Dose
If a dose is missed, take the same as soon as it is remembered.If it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, the missed dose should be skipped and the scheduled dose to be taken. One should not take extra dose to make up the missed dose.
BuSpar Side Effects
Ask for emergency medical help if there is any sign of allergic reactions like hives, breathing problems, swelling of face, lips, tongue and throat. There may be less serious side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, and feeling restless. However, Doctor should be immediately called in case of serious side effects like light-headed feeling, uneven heart rate, fainting, depressed mood, lack of coordination.

BuSpar should be stored in room temperature away from moisture, heat and light.
BuSpar Overdose
In case of overdose use of BuSpar, emergency medical help must be requisitioned. Symptoms of overdose are -nausea, dizziness, vomiting, drowsiness, blurred vision and stomach pain
