Aphthasol General Information

Aphthasol has been approved for the treatment of canker sores. Dentists these days are able to treat patients with topical oral paste who have recurring problem with apthous ulcers. The paste is used four times a day and may burn or sting on application. Although it is thought to inhibit inflammation and offers protection to wound, it is not known for sure how it works.
Aphthasol Uses
Aphthasol is used as a paste in the mouth to treat apthous ulcers or canker sores. It should be used as directed on the label or as prescribed by the Doctor. It should not be used in larger amount or for longer than recommended. Doctor should be told if the patient is allergic to any drugor if he has a weak immune system caused by disease or due to the after effect of some medicines taken earlier or presently taking cancer treatment. In such situation, the patient cannot allowed to use Aphthasol. Breast feeding nursing mother should not use Aphthasol before telling the same to the Doctor.
How Take Aphthasol
The medicine should be applied as soon as the wound or ulcer is noticed. After application of Aphthasol paste the hands should be washed. Application of the paste must be continued till the wound heels. In case the wound doesn't heel after 10 days, the Doctor should be consulted. No paste should go to the eyes and ever it goes to the eyes should be washed away with water properly. It is best to apply the paste after brushing and rinsing the teeth. It is better to dry the canker sore with a clean cloth before applying Aphthasol oral paste. There is no need to rub in the medicine.
Aphthasol Warnings
The Doctor should be told if there were any unusual reactions to Aphthasol or the patient is allergic to other substances like dyes or preservatives. Although there had not been any proper studies with human but the studies with animal have not found that it causes any birth defects or other problems.
Aphthasol Missed Dose
If any scheduled dose of Aphthasol is missed, apply it as soon as possible. But, if it is almost the time for the next schedule dose, then missed dose should be skipped and the scheduled does should be taken.
Aphthasol Side Effects
After taking Aphthasol there may be some side effects which sometime go away once the body gets adjusted to the medicine. However, if the side effects continue to be bothersome, then the Doctor must be consulted. Some less serious side effects of Aphthasol use are burning, stinging or pain on the part that medicine is applied, diarrhea, nausea, inflammation of mucous membranes. However, if any of the following serious side effects are observed, stop Aphthasol use and call for the Doctor: skin rash, new mouth ulcers, white patches or sores inside the mouth or on the lips.
Aphthasol Storage Advice
Aphthasol should be kept out of the reach of the children.It should be stored away from heat and light. Aphthasol should never be stored in bathroom, near the kitchen sink, or in damp places. Outdated and medicines no longer needed should never be stored.Discarded medicines till it is disposed off, should be kept away from the children's reach.
