Allegra-D General Information

Generic Name: fexofenadine and pseudoephedrine

Brand Name: Allegra-D 24 Hour, Allegra-D

Generic name of the drug is fexofenadine and pseudoephedrine. Allegra-D contains a combination of the two. Fexodenadine is an antihistamine to control histamine in the body that produce sneezing, runny nose, and itching, watery eyes. Pseudoephedrine in Allegra-D is a decongestant and it shrinks blood vessels in the nasal passage since dilated blood vessels can cause nasal congestion.

That is how by using Allegra-D, sneezing, cough, runny nose, watery eyes, rash, itching and other symptoms of allergies and common cold are treated. This medicine may also be used for other purposes which is not listed here.

Allegra-D Uses

Doctor must be consulted before Allegra-D is used by small children. Misuse of cough and cold medicine may be fatal especially for small children. Allegra D should not be taken if MAO inhibitor has already been used earlier. Serious life threatening side effects may occur if caugh and cold medicine is taken before MAO inhibitor has been cleared from the body system. Moreover, if the person has any of the following ailments, he may need a dose adjustment or special tests for the use of Allegra-D: kidney disease, diabetes, glaucoma, heart disease, high blood pressure, thyroid disorder, enlarged prostate, urination problem. It is not known whether Allegra D is harmful to an unborn baby. It is also not known whether the medicine passes into the breast milk or that can harm a nursing baby. Doctor must be communicated before using Allegra-D and act as per his advice.

How Take Allegra-D

Allegra-D should be taken exactly as prescribed by the Doctor. No extra dose of medicine be ever taken and never exceed the period of use than recommended. Direction as written on prescription label to be followed. Cold medicines are taken only for a short time until the body symptoms of the patient gets cleared. Before administering Allegra-D to a child, Doctor's advice must be taken. Full glass of water to be taken while taking Allegra-D. The tablet should not be broken, chewed or crushed before use since the tablet has been given a cover for extended release for releasing the medicine slowly in the body.The tablet is supposed to be swallowed with a glass full of water. Doctor must be consulted if there is no improvement even after 7 days of its use or if there is skin rash, fever, headache or cough or all in unison. taken

Allegra-D Warnings

Before any surgery to be undertaken by the patient, Surgeon must be told ahead of time if any Allergy-D has been taken within the past few days. Allegra - D may cause unusual results in skin tests, the Doctor performing the test must be told that the patient is taking antihistamine tablets. Extreme care be taken while administering Allegra-D or any other cough and cold medicines to children since misuse of these drugs with children may be life threatening. Avoid sleeping pills and other medicines which makes a person sleepy during the Allegra-D treatment period.

Allegra-D Missed Dose

Cough and cold medicines are taken as and when required basis. So, there is no scheduled dose for these drugs. However, if any planned dose is missed, it must be taken as and when remembered. If by that time the time for the next dose has come, then one of the dose may be skipped and no extra compensatory dose be taken.

Allegra-D Side Effects

Emergency help will be required if any of these allergy reactions are found due to the use of Allegra-D: breathing difficulty, hives, swelling of face, lips, tongue & throat. In case of serious side effects listed below, the Doctor may be called and stoppage of Allegra-D intake will be necessary: uneven heartbeat unusual behavior, confusion, anxiety, restlessness, dizziness, nervousness, blood pressure, concentration difficulty, chest pain, numbness, fever, chills, body aches, less or no urination. There may be less or moderate level of side effects as follows: dry mouth, stomach pain, nausea, constipation, mild loss of appetite, stomach upset, tingling, insomnia, shin rash, ringing in ears etc.

Allegra-D Storage Advice

Allegra-D should be stored in room temperature and away from moisture and heat.

Allegra-D Overdose

If too much of Allegra-D has been taken, emergency medical help should be made available immediately. Symptoms of overdose are -restlessness, vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, tingling and seizure.

Allegra-D More Information

Allegra may cause impairment of power to think or reactions. So, during treatment period while driving extreme care is needed if not the decision to quit driving. Alcohol intake should be stopped.
