Alesse is used as contraception to preventpregnancy. It contains a combination offemale hormones that prevent ovulation. Alesse also effects some changes in cervical mucus and uterine lining making it near impossible for fertilization. Alesse may have other uses apart from its use for contraception that is not listed here
Alesse Uses
A lady who had recently a baby or presently pregnant, should not take Alesse. Before using Alesse the Doctor should be told if the lady have a history of the following ailments:
- high blood pressure, heart disease, angina, heart attack
- high cholesterol or obesity
- diabetes
- history of depression
- seizure or epilepsy
- gallbladder disease
- history of irregular menstrual cycles
- varicose vein
- tuberculosis
How Take Alesse
Alesse should be taken as prescribed by the Doctor. It should be taken as per the prescribed quantityandfor the specific period as prescribed. The first pill of Alesse should be takenon the first day of the menstruation period or on the first Sundayafter the period begins as per the Doctor's instruction. It may be necessary to take back up birth control measures like condoms or spermicide when the Alesse is first used. Here also the Doctor's instruction to be followed. The pack containing 28 pills will contain seven reminder pills to keep the incumbent in regular cycle. The period will begin while you are using these reminder pills. Breakthrough bleeding may take place during the first three months. Doctor must be informed if this bleeding continues or is heavy. One pill per day at an interval of not more than 24 hours to be taken. If pills are taken irregularly, pregnancy may take place. In case of any medical tests or surgery or in case of bed rest, Alesse may be stopped for a short while. Any Doctor attending the lady for any sickness must know that she is taking Alesse.
Alesse Warnings
One should not smoke while using Alesse m, more so, if the lady if more than 35 years old. Smoking can increase the chance of blood clots, stroke, heart attacks that may be caused by Alesse. Sexually transmitted disease including AIDS and HIV,cannotbe prevented by Alesse. For that Condoms are better protection.
Alesse Missed Dose
Missing a dose of Alesse may increase the risk of pregnancy. If one pill is missed, she can take two pills as soon as she remembers and then continue taking one pill every day till the pack exhausts. If pills on consecutive days are missed in the week one and two, two pills to be taken per day for two days in a row. Then one pill per day for the rest of the pack. Further, back up birth control measures to be taken for at least 7 days following the missed pills. If two active pills is missed in a row in the week three or missed out three pills in a row in any of the first three weeks, the complete pack to be thrown and a new pack to be started on the same day if the lady is a Day 1 starter. If the lady is a Sunday starter, then one pill must be taken everyday till Sunday. On Sunday, rest ofthe pack should be thrown away and new pack to be started on Sunday. However, if any reminder pill is missed, throw the reminder pill away and one pill per day to be taken till the pack is empty. No back up birth control measures are necessary if reminder pill is missed.If two or more pills are missed, the lady may not have a period during the month. If the period is missed for two months in a row, the Doctor may be called to check up if the lady is pregnant.
Alesse Side Effects
Emergency medical help must be sought in case of the following allergic reactions are noticed or felt: breathing difficulty, hive, swelling of lips, tongue, face, or throat.
In case of the following serious side effects, the Doctor may be called immediately:
- sudden numbness or weakness in one side of the body
- severe headache, confusion, problem with vision, pain behind the eyes, speech or balance
- chest pain, nausea, sweating, general ill feeling, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder
- migraine headache increases, nausea, stomach pain, loss of appetite, dark urine, jaundice.
- Swelling of hands, ankles, feetwith symptoms of depression.

Alesse Storage Advice
Alesse should be stored in room temperature away from moisture and heat.
Alesse Overdose
If it is felt that overdose of Alessehas been consumed, emergency medical attention must be summoned immediately. Symptoms of overdose are nausea, vomiting, and vaginal bleeding.
